Habit Tracker

Habit trackers are a very popular addition to bullet journals, and you can use them to track almost anything!

Whether our habits are good or bad, they have a huge influence on us and how we live our lives.

By developing small, healthy habits you can make enormous strides towards a healthy lifestyle and the habit tracker is a perfect way to put these habits in place – and make sure they stay there!

Rather than writing down if you have (or haven’t!) done your daily tasks, with a habit tracker, they are already written down for you to tick off, or colour them in, when they’re complete. The act of filling in your daily habits, is an easy way to increase your motivation to accomplish each one.

Some habit trackers can be completed as weekly or Monthly Habit Trackers, depending on what they are and how regularly you would like them tracked.

Monthly Spread

Your Monthly spread can be used in a couple of different ways…

The Monthly Spread is a great place set yourself goals and reminders for key events and meetings that will be happening throughout your monthly calendar, or you can leave your monthly log with blank space, where you can keep coming back and adding to it as the month progresses, noting down ideas, experiences or events which have taken place.

You can then come back to your entries and reference them easily later on – if you’re feeling adventurous, why not divide your Monthly Log in two and do a mixture of both!

To Do List

A potentially obvious addition to a Bullet Journal – the to do list!

This type of spread will help you remain productive and balance your week – helping you stay as stress free as possible, while getting those important tasks done!

There are a number of ways you can structure your lists, here are 5 Top Tips for you to try;

  1. Master Lists – Your main To Do list than is a permanent feature of reoccurring items
  2. Break Your List Down – Rather than saying ‘gym’ or ‘cleaning’, try adding more detail or stages
  3. Order of Importance – This may seem obvious, but it’s amazing how many people have their lists in no particular order. Do this to add even more organisation to your lists!
  4. Re-allocate your Jobs – If you don’t get your tasks done today, add them to tomorrow
  5. Review Tasks – By looking back at your to do lists, you may see ways you can be more efficient next time

Minimalist Bullet Journal Spreads

The minimalist spread is great for beginners and, well – minimalists!

Keeping your journal layouts as simple spreads, is a great way to get started when you’re looking at a blank page or new Bullet Journal. This will help you focus on your content and get you in the swing of completing your journal.

They are also good for leaving you plenty of space to update your daily events and tasks as you move through the week and will help to keep your mind as de-cluttered as your journal page!

There are tons of cool, minimalist ideas to try. For more simple spread ideas, why not check out our post 55 Bullet Journal Weekly Spread Ideas To Inspire You’, which has some great inspiration for minimalist spread layouts.

Meal Planning

By using a meal planner in your bullet journal, you can plan out an entire week, or months’ worth of meals.

More often than not, these spreads will break your day down into the three key meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner, with  the exception of a few spreads that will focus on tracking just one meal each day.

It may be that you are trying to eat more healthily, or that you are prone to working through your lunch-break.

By having your meal plan in place, and including this in your own spreads, you can look to eat a more balanced diet and put yourself one step ahead of that last minute dash to the drive-thru!

Mood Tracker

A bullet journal mood tracker is a page in your journal that allows you to track whether you are feeling happy, sad, angry, bored, anxious, elated – really any mood at all!

You can create a monthly mood tracker on a new page by writing down the dates for the upcoming month and adding a colour key for the moods you want to track, then fill it in each day.

This can serve a couple of different purposes. Firstly, if you’re not doing so great (maybe your boss is on your back, or you’ve had an argument with someone), by capturing your mood in your journal, it will quite likely release some pressure and give you a boost.

Also, by having your moods tracked in your journal, you can look back and see how certain things made you feel and if there are any patterns – things that are making you happy or sad.

This can help you decide which things you might want to increase in your life, or in fact, do a little bit less of!

Weekly Log

The weekly Log is a natural step between monthlies and dailies, acting as a general overview of the week, helping you plan the next seven days without getting bogged down in too much detail. They will likely help you structure the bulk of your planning across the week.

You can cover any of these in your Weekly Log;

  • Appointments
  • Key Events
  • Ongoing Tasks
  • Deadlines you have coming up
  • To Do Lists
  • Notes
  • Weekly Trackers
  • Habit Trackers

Use any combinations to see what is possible with your own bullet journal – you can mix and match any themes, designs, hand lettering and spacings to truly make the best of your bujo, planning your functional space for the entire week, to suit your own style and personal needs!

Washi Tape Mood Trackers

Washi tape is a must-have if you want to brighten up your bullet journal spreads. Once you start using it, it might just take over your life!

By using various colours and styles of Washi Tape, you can allocate a colour to represent certain moods. This will then act as a ‘key’ for you to tally your daily mood entries.

Much like other mood trackers, you can then look back at your bullet journal, to see if certain things (work, people, events), trigger certain moods throughout your week.

Future Log

The Future Log page spreads are for any important life-events, goals or deadlines coming up.

It’s important to remember, these aren’t tasks or to-dos, but significant events that are particularly important or deadlines that you just can’t miss and dates to remember.

The Future Log sits in the front of your journal, as it’s a long-term projection that can be a key reference point you can refer back to as your Bujo grows.

Daily Log and Daily Spread

Your Daily Log is at the heart of your Bullet Journal, focusing in on each particular day of the week, giving you as much space as you’ll need to create, add extra detail to tasks, generate notes as the day goes on and just generally help to make your more productive!

Maybe you would like to keep track of appointments you have each day? You can also write down your goals, make plans or record important ideas.

You can review your Daily Log at the end of each day and see which tasks are complete and perhaps reallocate any that weren’t, over to tomorrow.

Here is a simple summary of some things to include in your Daily Log;

  • The Date
  • Tasks to complete that day
  • Meal Plans
  • Important reminders
  • Goals to achieve
  • Habit tracker
  • Appointments and meetings
  • Doodles
  • Empty section to jot down notes and ideas
  • Weather

Keep playing with what you include. A good tip is to try and limit your entries to ones that will help you stay productive and on track for the day. You can always add or remove things for each day as you go, so don’t be afraid to try new things!

The best time to lay out your Daily Spread, is the night before, or first thing in the morning.

Mental Health Journaling

Journaling exercises are great for many different states of mind, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, or when facing hard times.

Capturing your thoughts in the moment, offers an opportunity to reflect and grow on a daily basis, to look back on a particular emotional state and learn from yourself, or to look to the future more positively.

Your Journal can act as a valuable tool within your support system and complement more traditional talking therapies, helping you achieve a more healthy lifestyle.

Completing your Bullet Journal has many therapeutic benefits, providing some structure and outlet for how you are feeling, helping you through those difficult times.

The action of journaling itself creates a mindful activity, allowing you to be more present in that moment while you organise, express and reflect on your emotional and mental wellbeing.

Here are some things you could include in your Mental Health Spreads;

  • A daily Mantra
  • An Inspirational Quote
  • Feelings and Mood Tracker
  • A Gratitude List
  • Self-Care Tracker
  • Goals Tracker
  • Daily wellbeing activities (yoga, meditation, breathing exercises)
  • Physical activity tracker (walk, gym, bike ride)
